  • What was the biggest challenge you faced creating your store?
    • Figuring out a design for the store!

 

  • What worked really well when using our platform?
    • Despite my lack of experience, I was able to smoothly and efficiently set up my own store within a few hours! The accessibility and low barrier to entry really opens up the oppourtunity to create one's own store to more people.

 

  • What could be improved when using our platform?
    • Shopify is already doing a lot of things right, with how easy it is to create and set up stores. However, I think that further options for customization would make the experience even better, such as with designing logos, themes, etc. In addition to further customization options, making it easier to do such proposed features would be helpful with usage as well.

 

  • How did this experience help you build empathy for our merchants?
    • By setting up a store for myself, I'm quite literally putting myself in the shoes of merchants. I feel that by going through this experience myself, it makes the fact that I will be working on Shopify as an actual product more real, thus allowing me to take that into consideration when I work!

  • What was the most significant thing you learned through this store-building experience?
    • Though surface level, I learned about how part of Shopify's product works, and how merchants use that product. This will help me when working on the product, as it will make me mindful of the fact that people use and rely on Shopify while working. 

 

  • What are some positive features you discovered about Shopify’s platform?
    • The fact that it is very accessible, up-to-date, and provides a lot of easy-to-follow tutorials for a lot of things. When using other software, sometimes their tutorials are very out of date and unclear, leaving me with more problems than when I started. On the other hand, Shopify's tutorials as well as user experience makes the whole experience of setting up and managing a shop to be very efficient and quite easy.

 

  • What are some challenges you anticipate our merchants might face in using the platform?
    • Merchants might feel overwhelmed with all the features and options for customization as well as logistics, which may cause them to avoid Shopify. But so long as Shopify continues to provide up-to-date, easy-to-follow, comprehensive tutorials as well as free courses, this possible problem can be mitigated immensely.

 

  • How easy/hard was it for you to navigate the platform? Why?
    • Given that I have no experience creating a Shopify store, it was very easy to use the platform for the first time. I would say that Shopify's user experience as a platform has been very thoughtfully created and made in a way that makes it very accessible and easy for the unexperienced to pick up. 

 

  • How might this experience help you to be a better developer at Shopify?
    • Going through the product myself and putting myself in the shoes of merchants will allow me to be mindful of putting the merchants first/being merchant obsessed while working on Shopify's product as a developer.
